Beyond the LHC, the next major project of particle physics is to be the International Linear Collider ILC a linear accelerator in which electrons and their antiparticles (positrons) collide with energies of 90 to 500 GeV, and which can be upgraded in a second step to 1 TeV. The purpose of the ILC is to try to answer questions about the fundamental nature of matter, energy, space and time, dark matter, dark energy and the existence of additional dimensions. The basic technology of this accelerator is now established and a part of the scientific community is trying to define the concepts of the detectors.

The contribution of the LPSC focuses on the concept of the European Large Detector Concept (LDC)

    We participated in the design of the readout electronics :
  • of the vertex subdetector (or pixel detector), CMOS collaboration;
  • of the electromagnetic calorimeter (EM), made of tungsten and silicon (Si/W), CALICE collaboration. For this subdetector, we also worked on the design of the calibration electronics. These activities are currently paused for budgetary reasons

We are also engaged in engineering EM end-caps (composite honeycomb structure : tungsten + carbon fiber, geometry, simulation of deformations, study of the fastening system , study of the cooling system essential because of numerous electronic channels). Finally we participate in beam tests of EM and hadronic calorimeter prototypes, in the analysis of data , as well as simulation performance of the EM end-caps.
