The LPSC is dedicated to fundamental research, but it also has a duty exploit the economic impact of this research and the technical knowledge of the laboratory, by, for example, entering into partnerships for innovative development. In fact, for more than 25 years the LPSC has collaborated with industry in various ways:

•By consulting contracts which may be with an individual expert or with one of the research groups of the laboratory.

•By providing highly specialized services.

•By collaborating in joint research projects. These collaborations may take the form of financing a doctoral student, or by training technical staff.

•By exploiting the commercial possibilities of the laboratory’s developments through the CNRS technology transfer infra-structure (GRAVIT, GRAIN).

•By providing specialized laboratory space for industrial companies possibly with a joint research team.

Current Projects:

The laboratory encourages technology transfer and commercial interests principally in its traditional fields of activity: measurement of low radioactivity, electronics, detector technology, computing, ion sources, plasma technology, surface treatment using plasmas.

Other more recent domains of interest are: hadron therapy (CNAO and Etoile) and innovative accelerators. In the longer term TMSR reactors (thorium molten salt reactors) show interesting potential for the production of nuclear energy.

Finally, the large spectrum of scientific and technical competence available at the LPSC allow it to meet many needs of industrial companies, which maybe one-off, like a training course or a highly specialized piece of mechanical engineering, or a longer term collaboration such as the financing of a PhD student for a particular research topic.
