Reactor Physics: The PEREN platform
  1   2   3

The excellent potential of the 232Th/ 233U fuel cycle in a molten salt breeder reactor, with thorium as its fertile element and uranium233 as its fissile component, has led us to build, at LPSC, a platform in which to perform experiments to gather fundamental nuclear and chemical data that are necessary for the specification and the development of such a system. Neutronic data production on the PEREN Experiment Platform ( Investigation and research platform for nuclear power ) began in 2004. It involves a pulsed neutron source, GENEPI II, which can be coupled to various massive moderator blocks:

  • A graphite block with hollowed out channels which may contain various scattering materials.
  • A CF2 block (Teflon).
  • A lead slowing-down time spectrometer.
