Scientific information

Gravitationally bound quantum states of matter were observed for the first time due to unique properties of ultracold neutrons. Some properties of the lowest quantum states were measured in recent experiments in so-called integral and differential measuring modes.
We are going to improve considerably the accuracy of these experiments using resonance transitions between the gravitationally bound quantum states of neutrons.

The goals of the present meeting are:

a) to overview possible applications of this experiment in different fields of physics such as, for instance, the search for spin-independent or spin-dependent short-range fundamental forces, the quantum-mechanical localization or the loss of quantum coherence etc.

b) to choose parameters and options for the future experimental installation GRANIT to study the resonance transitions.

General information

  • Workshop site: (LPSC amphitheatre)
Grenoble is located in the middle eastern part of France, about 40 minutes by bus or car from Lyon International Airport and about 2 hours drive from Geneva
. The workshop will be held in the Laboratory for Subatomics Physics and Cosmology in Grenoble located in the Scientific Polygone. The LPSC is located close to the Grenoble city and can easily be reached by public transportation from all over the city.

The dead-line for reservation of the ILL guesthouse and the lunches is february 28 th, 2006.
After this date, the guesthouse can not be guaranted and you will need to reserve a room in Grenoble yourself.

  • Lunches
They will be served at the laboratory local cafeteria.
    Price for one meal : 11 €
  • Accomodation
Participants will generally be expected to stay in the ESRF-ILL guesthouse, near the front gate. Price : 27.98 Euros for a single room, breakfast (1.64 Euro) included. This is a modern economy class hotel with email and TV in the lounges, and 164 single or double air-conditioned rooms, including shower, telephone and fast ethernet connections for personal computers.
